Surprise Snowfall March 5

There was a surprise snowfall overnight. The weather man called for rain in our area with the caveat that if the clouds moved north of the predicted area we might get snow. Come morning traffic was a mess. Cars every which way on black ice.

The daffodils on the hill had been exploding over the weekend. I stopped counting at 20 blossoms open! This morning the hill looked like a daffodil  graveyard. Bob was out there snapping photos for a long time this morning.  If the stem is not bent with a crease, the flowers have a way to recover. I told Bob to pick the ones that looked too bent.

He brought in a huge bouquet that was still dripping melting snow and dropping clumps that looked like ice. Some of the flowers were actually sticking to others with the weight of the water. Within ten minutes the flowers had all perked up and were plumping up. None of the stems were bent with a crease.

By 3:00 this afternoon the kitchen had a daffodil fragrance that was glorious. Bob returned to the hill in the afternoon and caught this shot of the same sad looking flower from this morning.

BUT WAIT!! Did you notice that Daffodils have a resilience we can learn from? They bend under ice and snow. They almost fold in the cold. When the weather changes and the sun returns they rebound with a bounce of springtime joy.

Oh Lord, teach us to do the same.

  1. We were supposed to get snow this morning, but all we're getting is cold winds.

    No daffodils here yet.
